DofE residential in the Happy Valley, Morocco 2015!

DAY 6

Today we had an early start with porridge for breakfast, to prepare us for our cultural excursion day, starting with the local market in Tabant. This felt like a genuine Berber experience as there were hardly any tourists. We attempted to buy a donkey however there were some issues over custody and immigration! After this we hiked up to the granary view point to admire the outstanding views over the Happy Valley and take multiple experimental selfies. Our hike then took us to the dinosaur footprints in the valley, another amazing experience. We then walked back to Tabant for cold drinks, chicken and chips.

Back at the gite we enjoyed a siesta before heading off to the association 5 minutes down the road. At the association we were immersed in the art of rug making, as the local Berber women showed us how to make a wool rug on a traditional Berber loom. Although it was repetative work we passed the time with singing and talking and were generally impressed with the progress we made. We also got the opportunity to buy some of the jewellery the ladies had made. After this tiring day we finished with omelette tagine, which we managed to lick clean, topped off with cinnamon oranges for dessert.
